Energy-Gauge starts by a user defining a particular building for a few key inputs such as building type (e.g., hospital, office, school etc.), square footage, occupancy, and location. Next the user creates a benchmark by defining a total energy usage across a 12 month period. Using the building parameters, Energy-Gauge simulates building energy consumption using modeling parameters synthesized from sources like weather stations, ASHRAE design criteria, EPA/Energy Star data, and EIA CBECS information to compare the stated 12 month energy consumption to the model. The result is a 0-100 score that is normalized across information such as building size, occupancy, usage, and climate/location
